cel

ok first off i would like to say i dont have a reader so im trying to get ideas before i pay to have it read. the car is an 06 cooper. it is my girlfriends car and she just got it 2 weeks ago. all was well with it til today when a cel pops up. im not really a mini guy. more of a vw guy so im trying to get common problems that an 06 with 34000 miles might have. im sure its connected to emmisions some how cause i always is but any ideas on what it could be.? she said she heard a beep come from the car on her way up a hill and not an hour later the service engine light is on...

most of the larger national chain parts stores will plug a reader in for FREE and tell you what the code is and give a better place to start with repair.

Could be anything. There isn't a "typical" code that gets thrown unfortunately for you and fortunately for us.

I'd either buy a reader, or go have it read.

Here's my thought. A decent reader is what... $60? One read at a dealer is probably around $100. In your case, the car is under warranty, so just go get it read, it's just going to cost you some time.

In today's world not having a code reader is like not having a screwdriver.

Yeah Why guess your under Warranty I am tech I work on these all day long @ the Dealer. As I am sure for chads comment probably does the same

Hmm ok lets guess this should be fun
1. 02 sensor 2. evap leak(fuel cap) 3. Dme programming (ECU)
4. Yay this is getting fun isnt .
5. engine control air intake system,6. DSC causing a implausible reading in
engine control.

Ok so we can be here all day long.

get it in the dealer!
