That sounds like a dealer question. I'm assuming you have good quality gas in the tank.

HA ha driver Phil I am the dealer. Has good gas did a fuel sample
sometimes its good to get outside input from other Techs or cars that have
been corrected. these are new engines and management system/but were
going through our growing pains. Listen if like I said If god made cars we would all be out of jobs. Dont shoot me I am just the messenger.

its not the dealers faults all tthe time when people out there point the finger @ us. Its sometimes getting new spport info from the manufacture. And sometimes were just put on hold.

thanks for inputting.

hmmm, you seem to have the same problem that I had before. My R56 MINI had the same problem with the engine misfiring and very bad idling. I found out there was rust on one of the ignition coils. The coils rusted probably because of the opened up hood scoop for my CAI and the rain. (The hood scoop is aimed directly over the ignition coils) hope that helps a little.

i'm gonna bump this up...

Anyone else had this issue and have it resolved?

my car has a rough idle at startup. It stalled 1 of the 3 times it's happened so far. The third time I got a CEL, misfire on all 4 cylinders.

The tech department "can't replicate" the problem so they say they can't fix it.

Ive found that similar problems have been caused by a high pressure fuel pump failure, but they threw a low fuel pressure CEL, not a misfire on all cylinders CEL.

I have seen about three that have had High or low pressure pump issues and had the misfire faults. Hook up the GT1 and perform a short test and then clear fault memory without ending the session. Let car sit for period of time needed to have misfire happen(most of mine were for 6 or more hours).

Turn the ignition on to enable communication with DME etc... Select the DME in Control Module functions, and go to "diagnosis requests". You should see a selection for fuel system where you can monitor both the "actual" value of the Fuel pressure and the "requested" value. It should be 5.0 on the screen that is requested. If the actual is much lower than that, check the delivery pressure and volume of the in tank pump. They have similar volume and pressure as the main pump in the R53 (on the low side(Supply) of the High pressure Fuel system. If the Low side pump is ok, you need a High side pump.

Ask your customer key infomation on when the problem happens...How long does it sit, anything else odd going on. Get permission to drive to lunch and or get your manager to drive the car home to log some miles on it. And......

Good Luck

That's one of the reasons i left....But you have to admit, sitting behind a desk and trying to figure out what is wrong with a car 1000 miles away would be difficult. To many roadblocks with PUMA..not enough teaching to solve problems for the future. I would ask them questions about the logistics of control units so that I could understand function and just about every time, it was disregarded.

Well I am back. 2nd MCS now 2010 model with 10kms.
My car is just blowing BLACK exhaust smoke and misfiring in all cylinders and getting fixed every week then coming back a few days later. The dealership replaced the hpfp,fuel lines,fuel rail and MAF.
I keep getting the exact same codes week after week. Here is a video I made of my New diesel mini! http://youtu.be/Qndg_6fdnSc

I wish I never bought this lemon mini. :(

What EXACT codes are you pulling?

After seeing you video, yes, the car is misfiring and the black smoke you see if the excessive unburned hydrocarbons from the fuel mixture.
Dealer should pull the spark plugs, and ignition coils and inspect / change them.
Seems to me there's an electronic ignition problem that not getting a complete spark in the combustion chamber.

the codes that I am getting are: P0300,0302,0303,0304,2177,2096,2097.

the dealership said that they checked the plugs/coil and all that other stuff, and he said that they were clean and fine.
I might find out what the other major issue is with this lemon.

* Mini DTC P0300 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
* Mini DTC P0302 - Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected
* Mini DTC P0303 - Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected
* Mini DTC P0304 - Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected
* Mini DTC P2096 - Signal Delay Time for Oxygen Sensor Ageing Limit
* Mini DTC P2097 - Post Catalyst Fuel Trim System High Limit
* Mini DTC P2177 - Bank 1; System Too Lean off Idle: Upper Limit Exceeded

Two things I see...
1.) the pre-cat O2 sensor seems to be slow to recognize the closed-loop fuel trim and give proper feedback to the ECU
2.) check to see if there's any cracks / seperations in the exhaust system.

The ECU is seeing a lean condition outside of the idle range, which means there's a fuel cut problem.
Sourcing why is going to be the key; might be a high-pressure fuel pump.

Hey Erik, thanks for your help. So the hpfp was replaced 2 weeks ago, that was the 2nd time that I brought my car in. They also changed the fuel lines and fuel rail. Last week, when I brought it in for the 3rd time, they replaced the MAF and checked all the plugs/coils etc...

I do have an Invidia exhaust on my car, but I had it on my 07 MCS without any problems at all. Plus I did have this issue before I put it on my 2010 MCS.

But we will see what the dealership does this week.

Has the timing chain guide/thingy update been done? My car idled like a pile of crap after that and still does a bit. But cleaned up a lot after they manually adjusted the timing gears that were out of spec. I suspect it must have had something to do with that timing chain guide/thingy update installation.
