My last tank of gas I drove around with the intention to get the best possible MPG. On a 7 mile commute to work everyday 5 miles being city and 2 being highway. So using 6th gear and cruise control I averaged 38.3MPG which I'll take any day but if I'm driving normal I average between 28 & 30mpg. So If I really try I can get almost approx another 100 miles on a tank of gas or 14 more days of driving to work but I don't just drive to work and back plus weekends so yeah.

on my last trip of 380miles 100% freeway. I got 36mpg (calculated). Previous trip was 31-32mpg. The difference between the two trips is that I did an oil change. got rid of the factory fill and put in mobil 1 0w-40

Got 51.1 mpg average on the OBC for my commute to work today.

About 30 miles distance, mix of city and highway, but majority was highway.

First time I've seen my average above 50!

Haha, I really have no idea. I was consciously trying the whole time though to see how good of mileage I can get. Used 6th gear on the streets, which I rarely do. There was hardly any traffic which helped.

Nope, not that I know of, there might be a slight slight change in elevation between my house and my work, but nothing dramatic.

Yup I'm sure. It's never been that high before. But then again I've never really tried this hard to get good mileage. On the highway I'll usually average between 35-40, depending on speed, traffic and how I'm driving. I've seen it climb above 40 a couple times. 100% city driving I'm usually 30-32.

I love this car. I was lucky if I got 20 mpg in my R53!

that's fantastic! I was happy to see 36mpg on the freeway on my last long trip.

My '08 MCSa gets 33mpg around town and 37.7mpg on my last 400 mile trip. The wife is leaving tomorrow for an 800 mile trip. She is LOTS easier on the go-pedal than I so numbers should go up somewhat.

FYI, I have a number of performance options; CAI, boost tubes, Magniflow exhaust, UniChip>> Sho' got peppy!!!

I used to average 30 in city driving and a about 36-39 on highway.

Fuel economy shouldn't be an issue at all with Cooper S. I also drove the base version with automatic shift and I was so surprised how zippy it was.

I don't think you can go wrong with either in terms drive or fuel economy.
