Does anyone have a coolant problem with your R56? I found that mine coolant was really low (Minimum Line) two weeks ago, so I had my local Mini Dealer fill it up for me, but I found that it was low again yesterday . It's not leaking out on my drive way or anything like that.

I will have to take it to Crevier this weekend for them to look at. Since I bought my Mini there, they will give me a loaner. I only have 15600 miles on her. Anyone else with this problem?

 

I've had to put coolant in a couple times , not alot .

 

Check your oil level. If it is way too high, or has a chocolate milkshake appearance to it, you have a failed head gasket.

 

How much did you need to add? 2 ounces? 2 quarts?

Having to add a little coolant once or twice a year is perfectly normal, maybe 8 ounces or less. Adding a cup or two every few weeks indicates a problem that needs to be fixed.

I don't know how much, but I think it's about a 12 ounce.

 

That's a lot to be adding on a regular basis. Time to get to the dealer to have them check it out. Hope it's something simple!

 

any news? I added a little, just from above min line to 3/4 way between min and max about a month ago and found it's back at the min level. my oil is fine though, wondering what the problem can be. No leaks.

 

The 06 Minis had a similar issue and it turned out to be a leaky thermostat. The fluid would evaporate before it could drip to the ground when parked. Watch your heat gauge and see if it slowly rises when at stop lights. If it goes back down when you get up to speed it's likely to be the thermostat/housing.

 

Unless it's got an aftermarket one, there isn't a temp gauge in the 2nd Gen models.

 

also make sure you check the coolant at the same temp, when car is hot it will go higher....

 

so at cold, should it still be in between the min/max line or is at the min okay?

 

Per the manual, car cold should be between "min and max" (page 104 or 108 IIRC).
