UGH! How do you remove the power steering hose?!

I'm trying (desperately) to swap out my power steering pump. I removed the hose clamp, but I cannot for the LIFE of me get the hose to disconnect from the power steering pump. I've twisted, pried, push, pulled, yelled, you name it, I tried it!

How in the !@#@$ do you get that thing off????

A little more of that....and since you are replacing it, just take a razor blade and make a slice down the side of the old hose and pull it off.

I gave up. I think I've battled enough with the car. It's going to the mechanic. MINI = 8. Me = 0.

i just took mines off a few hrs ago, and it wasn't easy. It sort of came looose on it's own, and all the fluid came out and make a big mess.

Removing PS hose.

I did this a while back. After trying the prying twisting and cussing I just got out the heat gun and gently heated the hose near the nipple. This made the hose pliable enough to remove easily. One caution though, all that prying, twisting and cussing loosened the hose connection at the reservoir causing a minor leak.

Yeah, I took the coward's way out and cut the hose to remove it. Bad news--the replacement hose from BMW/MINI was a llittle over $50.00. Oucharoonie! The hose has an aluminum heat shield around it, and I figured if the car was designed that way, I should keep it original, what with engine fire possibilities, etc. I've since been advised that I should purchase long reach needle nose pliers from Harbor Freight (two for ten bucks or so) or other tool supply place. They come in two styles-one long reach straight and one long reach 90 degree. The 90 degree one will help you re-install the new hose and/or maybe save you the cost of cutting the old hose off. Lotsa luck!
