Dash Vibration/Buzz

I've done a search and found a few threads about a dash rattle or vibration but I'm not sure they are the same as I'm experiencing.

When I accelerate, say in 2nd gear and let off around 4500 rpm...theres a high frequency, buzzing vibration that I hear as the car decelerates to around 3500 rpm. I originally thought it was my intake vibrating against the firewall, but I have since removed it and gone back to the stock intake and the noise is still there. It sounds like it is somewhere deep in the dash, near the firewall area. It's kind of annoying and I can hear it almost everytime I shift as the revs drop in between the shifts.

Anyone had the same issue??

i have a similar problem, but ive just narrowed it down to the intake making the car vibrate a lil more at those rpms and as it is the car interior is a lil flimsy so....just deal, i dont think its a seirous issue,

i mean for exmpale, my tach vibrates alot since i put gauges on, i think its jus tthe interior...

It's not the intake. I thought it was as well, but I have removed my K&N and put the stock box back on. It is something behind or in the dash that vibrates. It's a really high frequency vibration, definitely not a "rattle". Also, its not a vibration that is felt, its just an audible buzz.

i have the same rattle under full throttle.

I think it is either the cowel or some plastic trim in the engine bay just on the engine side of the firewall. It is seriously annoying but I dont want MINI to F up my car by pulling everything out to find a buzz

I had the same thing...mine was more annoying because it occured around 2000-2500 rpm (so every stop and go) but it seems to barely ever happen, and honestly I'd rather live with it for now than bug the dealership because they may start to think I'm a hypochondriac with my car hahaha

Had the same issue. Vibration/rattling sound between 1800-3200RPM. It sounds like it is coming from the dash or firewall but it turned out to be the overhead toggle switch cover plate. Try putting your hand on the overhead plate and pressing firmly. Took cover off and applied some felt and the noise went away.

also check the trim around the left most vent. Mine rattled a bit so I pulled it off and dripped some super glue between my chrome ring and the vent (from the inside) . rattle gone. push it when you hear the vibration. it'll stop vibrating if that is it.

motormouth my left vent does this too . are they easy to pull off? i hear it mostly over rough road surfaces. probably more to do with the runflats , which will be off by the end of the month when my konigs and neogens come to daddy.

on the side of the vent (next to the door) there is a circle plastic thing. pry it out and it'll become semi-obvious how to get the vent off =)

It's been 8 or 9 months since I did it so my detailed memory fails me.

Thats one that I know I have for sure...doesn't happen from engine vibrations, but does occur from bumps. I used to think it was in the door, but then I started pushing around and the vent

I'm getting the same vibration/buzz behind the dash/firewall at 2000-2500rpm.

It's sooo annoying!!!

Car is booked in to be looked at next week. Hopefully they can find the issue and fix it.

My car was quiet until a few days ago (new car) and then I got this. Drove me nuts but we found it today!!!

Open up your iPod "glove box" - the special touch panel on the right side of the dash. Inside here, on the top of it is a loose plastic panel with some soundproofing (like neoprene). Unfortunately, it's not held in place by anything and vibrates a bit at low-medium speeds. For the moment I've jammed some paper toweling in there and that does the trick. Nice and silent again.

Got my car back today.

Car was fitted with the JCW Stage 1 Tuning Kit which I'm loving!

Anyways, the vibration/buzz seems to be somewhat gone.

It might have been due to them fiddleing in the engine bay and replacing the airbox and stuff... Really not sure...

Anyways... For now it seems to be better, but I'll keep an eye on it and see if it comes back.

I had an annoying buzz too, between 2500-3000 rpm, but the buzz came and went depending on the temperature. For me it was the plastic cover on the left side of the centre console, down in the footwell. If you slide your foot to the right on the gas pedal you can touch it and the buzzing stops. That's how I found out where the buzzing was coming from. 2 screws to remove the plastic bit, add a bit of adhesive weather stripping, reinstall, and Bob's your uncle. Of course you may have a different buzz.

Hmmm...you are the only one that seems to have the same buzz as me. Mine definitely sounds like its coming from the area that you described. I shall try your suggestion next time it happens!!

Have you ever felt that piece after driving for a little bit?! that thing gets crazy hot!! I'm really surprised they allowed that piece to get like that...I would think if could burn someones foot if they drove barefoot...just make sure the adhesive isnt falling off from the heat

My wife's R56(July 07 build) is an automatic; and every time you accelerate through 1st and 2nd gear at about 2,500 to 3,000 rpm there is a buzzing coming from the left side of the dash. Not loud, but terribly annoying. It's somewhere in the area of the tach, but doesn't appear to be from the tach.

The service techs at the dealer downplayed it; and we haven't brought the car back as yet for any service items; but it's definitely an issue.

I am experiencing this buzzing noise as well. Mine sounds like it is coming from the middle of the dash. My 07 MCS has some sort of odd plastic plug piece in the top of the middle of the dash right by the defrost vent. At first I thought that it was this thing rattling, but that is not it. Really about to put a brother over the edge.

For those checking the firewalls, look behind the air box. You'll see a red sticker. There is a tab on the air box/tube that some times makes contact, usually under heavy acceleration with this red sticker. See if it's scratched or torn at all.

I sometimes get a center dash rattle and putting my fingers into the center vent and putting pressure on the very bottom (opposite side as the windshield) stops it. It doesn't happen very often though. Maybe twice in 7k miles.
