Broken boot latch...

So I'm driving home yesterday and my boot pops open (warning light goes on). I pull over and close it. After parking, shopping and returning to the car, I notice the boot light is again on. I open/close it one more time.

However, I noticed an odd sound when it closed. So I tried opening it again, but NO luck! It seems that latching mechanism broke somewhere between the boot handle and the latch itself, 'cause the latch handle doesn't even move.

Has anyone had this happen? The car is under warranty, so I'm not really sweating it. But I'm curious how the shop is going to fix this. The back seats are up, and the rear cover is in place. Is there anyway to remove the rear seats in this configuration??? Hmmm...

So has anyone had something similar happen?

For your year, there should be an emergency mechanical release under the back seat cushion. It is like a rip cord or something.

mine did it today (opened with the remote).

I use a key to fiddle around with the mechanism, and got it to engage. If it does it again, it's off to the dealer.

BTW you can drive w/out the thing flying open (at least with the windows up)
