23,669 service

My wife brought her '07 MCS in for a couple of minor warranty items. They had her car for 2 days.

Her car was built 1-14-07, delivered 2-27-07. As of last week she had 23,669 miles on it.

They changed oil & filter. I found this odd since it was done by the same dealer at the end of January '08 with 18,120 miles. They must not have reset the maintenance minder.

They also replaced the front brake pads, rotors, and sensors as well as the rear pads and sensors. The last thing they replaced was the interior micro filter.

All this was done free of charge as per the warranty.

I have done 2 prior oil & filter changes myself. She is very satisfied with her service from Motorwerks Mini in Bloomington, Minnesota.

Good of you to post a positive experience in a sea of negative ones. If more people would do this, we'd be a better resource for prospective buyers and seasoned NAM'ers alike. Thanks!

New rotors and pads at 24k miles?
Did you see if they were indeed worn?

My dealer replaced mine at 15,000 miles. They said, "The car told us to change them."

Go figure...

No, I did not see them myself. They said they had been getting a lot of premature warnings from the car on other '07 MINI's. They told my wife they would inspect and replace as necessary. The paperwork just says "brake pad worn down to minimum thickness, replaced"

24k is not unusual for BMW pads, which are fairly soft and wear more quickly than some other pads (and stop better too, in my opinion). BMW / MINI usually replaces the pads/rotors as a set, I'm surprised they replaced the front rotors only, but, bottom line, you just got a $1k+ four wheel brake job for free!

Ditto; I have over 24K on my car and the pads are still thick and juicy. And we do lots of motoring in extreme twisties...

23K isn't normal for pads, and that's way early for new front rotors. There was probably something wrong with yours, but if they fixed it that's good.

Wow, I must be driving my car harder than most people on here do. My car's service indicator is showing front brake service at around 10K miles and rear brake service at 15K miles!!! I don't track my car but I drive in a lot of stop-and-go type traffic. I also like driving my car hard whenever the conditions allow it. My average speed in the city is around 30 mph and average gas consumption is about 23 mpg.

How about, if various MINI service department would stop hiring the WORST available Technicians. Why is it on us, the consumers, to spread the word of positivity? Shouldn't that start @ the factory, then roll on down to the individual dealers. It isn't MINI owners' fault when you get krap service from a dealer, that many of feel they need to voice their troubles in public. Maybe if MINI dealers ran their service departments with some shred of professionalism, the constant "MINI Service SUCKS" threads would subside.

...as I said, 24k is not unusual for brake pads, but there is certainly a lot of variabilty from car to car and owner to owner. I didn't mean to imply that everyone's brakes will be worn out at 24k, just that it will be the case for some owners, and it is not unheard of, especially for a softer pad compound as used by BMW / Mini. In my experience, the amount of highway driving versus local driving is the biggest factor for most drivers. If your MINI is used mostly on the highway, you can double or triple the life of pads and rotors, as brakes are rarely used. Local driving is much tougher on brakes.
