Kels, I'd like to know that too... I had Auggie's "born on date" when I first got him, but now all I know is a March '08... Amend that I found the invoice completion Feb. 21, 2008

And to all yes I have the sunroof issue too. I just give it a push... I think its a seal issue related to the inverse pressure due to heat expansion (it gets stuck)

Feb 08. Silver roof Clubman. It can take 45 minutes of driving before the roof will open.

The problems that you are having MAY be that the seal is getting hot and sticking to the glass. I have had this problem with the vents in my motor home. When it gets hot the motor does not have enough power to break the seal. I have to hand crack the vent until it breaks the seal and then it works. Try a little silicone or rubber dressing on the seal to see if that eliminates the problem

The seal isn't sticking to the glass.

My build is Week 2 January 2008. Went out to lunch just now in 93deg weather..drive around for 10 minutes and still couldn't get the sunroof to open. I'm taking it in on Thursday to Princeton Mini. Anyone else take it there yet?

Mine has been at Princeton Mini for almost 2 weeks. they "fixed" it and when I went to pick it up saturday it still wasnt working. So I left it. Still havent heard from them. Hope to find out whats going on with it. I am dealing with Isaac, so he should have a general idea of the problem. If you see a DS/B with web-spokes and shore plates there, thats Scoopy. Give her a hug for me and tell her I miss her.

January 16,2008 build birth-date.

Mine does it in the 100+ degree heat here, only if it sits in the sun for a while though.

My build is March 2008

Hey folks,

I just ordered an Astro Black Mini Cooper with a black roof and a sunroof. I really wanted the sunroof and I plan on using it a lot, but I am kinda scared with this sticky issue. Are there anybody who doesn't have this issue? Is there a fix for this? I am not sure if I should keep my car at the dealership when it comes in just to have them look at it.

Have them look at it but it's really not a HUGE deal... until it gets stuck like.. open, I'm just kind of shrugging it off as one of Ollie's quirks.

My dealership just called me to finalize my order and I asked them about the Sticky Sunroof. They said they will definitely check with service and call me back. If service knows about a fix they will make sure they fix it once the Mini gets to the dealership.

They have been so great so far - I highly recommend Habberstad Mini to anybody in the NY area. http://www.habberstadmini.com/

Good call...Remember you have a warranty, so it will get fixed one way or another.

sunroof is dumb

i had motor replaced about a month ago in sunroof this actually is worse than the last one. They replaced track and than last week had it adjusted again. If it sits in sun it dosnt open until car cools down in about a min or so. So far this is only problem so im happy still so far. The tech says motor is problem from overheating. The stickyness thing is normal he said but cause motor dosnt have enough power it seems like its sticking. Dont force it either i no its annoying but caused it to really get stuck. Im hoping bmw engineer will take a look at it on wed.

Okay, I got an idea: Somebody park with it open or at least cracked. Get in, close it, and then try to open it. If it has any difficulty closing, it's a fit issue-meaning that with different rates of expansion in the sun, the roof and the opening approach "interference" fit. If it closes, then opens, the seal is probably not sticky, because it shouldn't have had time to 'grab' the hatch.

Anybody see where I'm snoozing on this?

It happens every time I open the windows using the remote: Hold down unlock for like 10 seconds and the sunroof doesnt open.

Seems she opens 'better' when the engine is running, indicating more battery/alternator voltage can help a bit; but it still happens at a rate of about 50%.

I dont nkow what to do... I hate the sunroof anyways. in fact, I hated it so much that when I bought the car, I told them I wasnt paying for the sunroof which I forced them to tint. It was the only sport package on the lot. If I have to get this crap relpaced I better not get any flack from aftermarket tinting from a pre-sale addon by the dealer.

I've done this. I parked it in a "hot spot" at work where it always fails to open after it has been sitting in the sun all day. Well, I recently decided to leave the top vented to see what would happen. At the end of the day I came out, popped the FOB in, and attempted to close and then open the sunroof. It worked fine. Closed perfectly and immediately opened on the first try without hesitation.
