I will apologize in advance if this has been posted a million times already. So today my drivers side window failed. I tried holding the switch up for a few seconds.. nothing. I read previous posts here on NAM and I tried punching the door above the speaker... it now makes a clicking noise, which is more than what it was doing before.

So does anyone know exactly what part is failing? I do not have a MINI dealership within 100 miles so I will probably have to take it to BMW. I would just like some knowledge going in so that I don't get taken at the dealership.

Any suggestions or guesstimates on the damage?

Definitely let the dealer fix it! This happened to my '03 MCS. It was still under warranty at the time. They suggested some sort of voodoo of hitting the door and holding the switch up or down or something. I asked them if that is the image they want to send out of MINI, that you've got to bang on the door every time I want to operate the window? It was bad enough that I had to open the door to get my Starbucks drive-thru fix. They fixed it under warranty. If yours is out of warranty, I would try pressuring them to fix it anyway. It's a known issue, at best they should split the cost with you.

 

Hopefully you are still under warranty. The motor costs around $100 plus 2 hours of labor to install.
