OK, I apologize ahead of time if you already know/are aware of this but I am kinda new here and have not caught up on all the threads...

Note: This all comes from my past experience with BMWs and anything stated below that MINI told me is through my Service Advisor.

I have a 03 MC that has the poor idle, a surge, etc... nothing new I know. Well the car went to my dealer for a 5 day stay. While there MINI sent down some techs (from what I was told) and they pulled all the info they need from the car. I am assuming they mean, Diag codes, fuel samples, full history log (good thing I broke in properly and have only bounced the rev limiter a few times), etc. I was waiting for a status and just the other day my Service Advisor contacted me.

Apparently MINI is supposedly using my car and one other that was there with a similar problem to build a new software version.

I guess really what I am happy about is that they acknowledged that I was having the issues I stated I was and are working on a fix. Their ETA is about 3 weeks.

I will do my best to keep you all posted.

Regards,

Eric.

Eric, what dealership are you working with? I hope they've given you a loaner car.

Oh, forgot to mention,

I am alternating between 89 and 93 octane, seems if you confuse the computer enough and make it constantly adapt it runs better

Just to let you know my experience with the techs at Braman has lead me to believe that the ones employed there are a bunch of idiots. I bought my MINI used and once I recieved it, I began to have problems. TO make a long story short: The service history pulled up by the service manager at my local nashville read that Braman techs replaced the same parts in the car 4 times, while the car still died in the middle of driving. They don't know how to solve simple problems that the Nashville techs laughed at. I hope that someone other the the Braman techs are looking at your car. And I would be skeptical of EVERYTHING they tell you. PM me and I will give you the whole story. Sorry if i scared you.

Not scared at all. I have a longtime relationship with Braman and know who to talk to and what to believe and not believe. I have heard other people have issues with them as well but so far so good as far as I have been concerned.

I will keep you all posted on what I find out. Lets hope 3 weeks does not become 3 months.

ESP, thanks for the info! You have read the other stumble threads, right? In particular, check out the last several pages of Stumble if you have not already.

My questions would be... 1) Why are they keeping your car for 3 weeks when other cars have been worked on by the "engineers" for much less than that for similar purposes (e.g., McKinneymini's DME supposedly went to Germany!); 2) What are they doing to your car that the folks who worked on Phobol's and McKinneymini's did not do?

Not to necessarily say that you're being fed a load here, but I'd sure want some real answers if someone was going to take my car for THREE WEEKS (Grand Am loaner or not). Maybe a call to MINIUSA is also in order...just to verify that corporate IS involved in this?

Almost 4 weeks now - what happened ESP? Did your buddies at Bramen come up with anything?

Having trouble reading your mind ESP.

My car has to stumble and bad idle ever since Prestige put the new software in. Thanks. This is just ridiculous now.... They really need to do something about this problem NOW!!! This has been going on for close to a year. And what the heck are MINI USA techs doing in Palm Beach? I though the HQ was in NJ.

Ladies & Gentlemen,

Get the "PowerChip" ECU upgrade.
My car is a completely different "beast" after programming.
The software is such a large part of the Mini equation.

My mini now drives as I allways hoped it would

SteelKite,

Did you have the yoyo before the Powerchip or just the stumble/hiccup?

ESP,

Where is the update? - My esp is not working.

My guess is BMW got to you and have silenced you before you could tell us that the software fix we are all waiting for is available "soon".

Sorry for no update... had some other more important things to take care of (if that is possible) than the MINI.

Well supposedly MINI techs were to come back for my car and some other info this week. I was tired of this, after 9K+ miles I wanted to get rid of the thing, so I did. Moved into a 06/03 Build Date MCS and with 900 miles on the clock no issues!

Latest I have heard was about another 3 weeks (sounds familiar) for a software fix.
