Key fob reset?

I did do a search but didn't see any mentions of this. I was wondering if anyone else had problems with their key fob resetting? I took a trip this weekend and was cruising down the road when I hit the turn signal and it blinked once (I have it programmed to 3). Then I changed the radio station and there weren't any presets. I scratched my had and thought, sheesh, I must have grabbed the other key fob by mistake when I left the house. I've only had my mini for a month and haven't used the other key fob so it made sense that I grabbed one that wasn't programmed.

I used the manual and figured out how to set the turn signals, daytime lights and such and went on my way.

Then I got home and found my other key fob exactly where I'd left it with the dealer tag still attached. I was using the one I've been using for the past month.

What the heck made it reset to blank???

I appreciate any comments that might help me figure out what happened.

I have no idea, but mine did the same thing meaning the turn signal thing but nothing else was changed.

Had you visited the dealer for any problems prior to this discovery?
You are describing default settings that occur after the vehicle programming has been updated.
All FM stations set to lowest on the band, default 1X turn signals, and others that I don't remember at the moment.

Me too

This happened to me today. I got my baby 14 days ago and i have not been to the dealership again.

I did try to program my Husbands key fob today with setting, i was wondering if the reset had something to do with that.

I haven't been to the dealer since I picked Tristan up. I didn't set the second key fob until after this happened. It hasn't happened since, but I'm still dealing with resetting all the radio and satellite stations. That is the really annoying part at the moment.

bump.

This just happened to me in my 4 day old MCS. I was only out of the car for 1 hour.

The only thing I did differently was to use the actual key to lock and unlock the doors as I was surfing. Would be a huge bummer if using the hard key continues to do this as I will be using it all the time.

This may be a phenomenon common to only recent builds. It seems that all of you with this issue have very new cars.

Has everyone who has had this issue only programmed 1 fob? As I recall reading, some of the posts indicated that the second fob had yet to be programmed.

I haven't used my second fob at all. It's still got the dealer tags on it.

I have not seen this issue since and I have used the key a few times since.

The only thing that happens now is occasionally certain setting will change when I get back in my car. Things like, the radio will come on set to preset #6 when I had left it on #1, or the most common is the ipod will forget that I had it on random. Neither of these happen all the time which makes it even more frustrating.

Doesn't detract from the fact that I love the car, but it'd be nice if it didn't do these little things.

I have a 01/07 build Cooper S and the same thing happened to me after a month or so after I took delivery of my car. It has not happened to me since. Odd, isn't it.

My Mini had a similar thing happen. I have never used the second fob, still in the dealer plastic. The other day I noticed when I unlocked the car with the comfort access button, only the drivers door unlocked. I had it set to unlock all doors prior. Went into the settings and found it had "lost" that setting. Also noted it lost the audio settings (treble/bass/speed) as well.

I use a Scangauge II and had a prior code stored in the car's system from when the front bumper was painted (they moved the car without the air temp sensor plugged in). This code was also gone. Some how it lost the door unlock setting, those audio settings and cleared that code. All on it's own. It didn't loose any of the radio presets and none of the other custom settings. 3-blink turn signals didn't reset.

Apparently the car just likes to show it's "British" heritage once in a while.

cHANGING kEY AND OTHER SETTINGS ON MY 2006 S CONVERTIBLE

Hi
I am a new member
But a long time Mini Lover -- no longer from afar

The below cited site is listed as containing a pdf instructional that may address my problem -- but it is a dead link ( http://www.heartinsanfrancisco.com/K...I2005-2007.pdf) The Manual mentions all these settings that can be changed on my Mini -- but it does not say how? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

get it replaced...

One of my FOBs started loosing settings a few months after delivery. Dealer said come in and we'll change the battery - this was a standard FOB and I pointed out the manual says there is no changable battery.

"Oh yes there is ... come in"

I did

They couldn't

Parts guy said "there's no changable battery, I'll order you a new one"

Too bad it was an hour drive each way to learn what I already knew .... Got a new FOB and all has been fine since. btw - no programming was required. according to the dealer a 'virgin' FOB that has never associated with a vehicle will sync with the first vehicle it is placed in - that worked with mine. They said if a FOB is MOVED, then there is a re-programming required. True? - dunno.

You have a 1st generation MINI. You need to have your fobs programmed at the dealer. Only the 2nd gens (R55/56/57) can be programmed by the user.
