You would have to get in contact with the company that had manufactured the rack. It should be marked on the rack some where. Most likely it is either a thule or yakima rack. Then go thru that company for the keys. Make sure you identify to the it is a rack they manufactured for the mini. They may have a specific key set, different from their standard retail rack line.

I know this is an ooollllddd thread, but I am hoping someone has had luck with this.

I bought a MINI-branded bike rack from #minigen and it arrived today sans key. Probably with thanks to the USPS. I am exploring ideas other than sending the monster back to him, and I'm wondering if anyone has had luck getting a new key from the MINI dealership. There's a code printed on the lock, so it would only make sense (to me) that the code would be for replacement keys.

A poster above mentioned a locksmith was able to pop the lock cylinder out of the rack to replace it, but I don't see how that would be possible for the clamping part as it is completely sealed around the lock cylinder. Unfortunately the clamp is locked or I wouldn't worry too much about that one.

Thanks for any suggestions!
Adam.

I didn't realize this was in the 1st gen or I would have posted a new thread... Not that the gen really matters... But I can't delete a post... That seems odd (or I just can't find the button!).

Thule? Is that who makes the MINI branded racks?

I have no clue who makes them. But the tumblers are changeable with Thule and the keys work. Most dealers have all the keys in the install area. Just borrow a key in the parking lot to see if it works.

My 2011 mini has a roof rack that was already there when I bought the mini. I asked for the key, they had to order it. All he asked for was the number on the lock. Mine was a 3 digit number. It took about 4 weeks as it came from Germany on a row boat. lol Sent from my iPhone using NAMotoring

Thanks to both of you for the information! Fortunately the seller found a spare he will send me. BUT, I still want to find/call a Thule dealer to see if that is an option so I can use my bike rack before then.

Why is it "probably thanks to the USPS?" Did they open the package and steal the keys? The keys would have been in the box with the rack, sonthe fault lies with the person who sent it to you.
