Great Vacation and then...roadside assistance

Last week I drove from Vegas to Park City to meet some friends for a week of skiing. This Thursday I left for home, a 6.5 hr drive. Approx 2 hours from Salt Lake my temp gauge suddenly lit up...I coasted to a stop and popped the bonnet...plenty of coolant, except it wasn't in the reservoir but rather all over the engine compartment. Rats

So I called roadside assistance and they arranged for a tow...back to SLC and MINI of Murray (they were the closet dealer). 3 hrs waiting for the tow and 2.5 hrs back, then the paperwork, then the shuttle to the airport, then the ride home. Long day.

Good news is that since I was more than 100 miles from home Roadside Assistance covered the plane ticket, meal, and the cab home...and they'll transport my car home.

MINI of Murray was very helpful...waiting on the diagnosis.

My only concern is that this is the second cooling incident in less than two months...this happen to anyone else?

Can you provide more info about what failed? The reservoir, a hose, a clamp, a gasket... ???

Don't know yet...as of COB Friday the mechanic (albeit only a brief look) hadn't found the problem yet.

Well, MINI of Murray found nothing wrong, suspects that Desert MINI did not bleed the system correctly when they fixed it a few weeks ago.

PS: MINI of Murray did not tighten the positive battery cable back down. Once I found that and tightened it, I've had nothing but electrical problems. Hard to start, fogs and DSC won't work, OBC, clock, and trip odometer resets everytime I turn off...

May just be an undercharged battery, gonna put it on a charger for a while see if that helps but if not...back in the shop it goes. GRRR

Maybe you should try loosening the positive cable again.
Sorry to hear about the troubles.
Nothing more frustrating than 'no problem found'

After driving it around awhile most of the problems went away. Maybe the battery needed more charge time...maybe the electrical bits needed time to reset. Will just watch it a while...
