Poll: All new MCS owners (June, July, August, or September p
Dear all new MINI Cooper S owners,
I hope you've been enjoying your new MINI. Just one quick question before you move on. I'm sure most of you have come across the Stumble thread. Maybe your car has the Stumble, maybe not. If you're not sure, you should be able to figure out what the Stumble is by quickly skimming the first page of the thread entitled "Stumble."
Please answer as briefly or detailed as you please the following two questions:
1) What was your build date? (If you don't know this, please feel free to insert the date you picked your car up from the dealer.)
2) Do you think that you car may have the "Stumble"?
Thanks. This might help us. Who knows.

Now that you mention it, yes, we have the stumble, not often, but it definitely has done it when starting from a complete stop (and it seems more pronounced w/ the AC on, no real surprise there). At first I thought I just needed to get the revs up a little more being a small engine, but there has been one or two times when I've got the revs to 2500-3000 ish and the motor has bogged almost to the point of dying... giving me a scare when I went to shoot a gap... and then coming back on w/ power.
I'll have to check the build date (I was a little distracted by a wedding when I ordered it and especially when I picked it up)... however...
June 25 delivery (It reached the port around June 10th I believe).

April 23 build date, and I picked up June 21.
I've got almost 3,000 miles, and I've noticed this sluggish hesitation in 1st gear from day one. It requires a bit of concentration to keep the RPMs above 2500 while slipping the clutch to get a smooth spirited take off. I'm starting to feel as though this is putting some excess strain on the clutch. Starting to pick up higher then it was a month ago.
As far as the "yo-yo" or surging effect, I didn't really notice that until after 1200 or so miles (I took it easy during break-in). This is also when this "stumbling" became apparent. In first gear once rolling and under moderate to hard acceleration there is a definite loss of power. Once in second and still under moderate to hard acceleration that surging yo-yo effect surfaces. Third through sixth there are no problems.
The car is stock under the hood BTW.
It's interesting this thread came about today. I was planning on stopping by the dealer on the way home today, as this problem is getting annoying. Besides the fact I've almost been t-boned... AGAIN today as a result of this.

<<aside to minichrist>> Yep. That's the stumble. See you in the thread.

Stock MCS, April 18 build date, delivered May 16, 1400 miles. Have had stumble in 1st gear since new - worse when starting from cold with A/C on. Stumble isn't consistent - sometimes (although not very often) it runs like it should. Needless to say I don't take any chances crossing busy intersections. Gas mileage much less than anticipated too (avg 20 in town/hwy during gentle break in). No yo-yo.
My build date was 05/16/03. Took delivery 06/20. I have about 1380 miles on her now, and the stumble seems to occur in first when the engine is cold – usually in the morning or when I'm leaving work.
Picked up 6/23 from dealer. 1300 mi. Only felt the stumbles a couple of times if the rpms aren't built-up enough and the car is cold (a/c on all the time, its Miami for gosh sakes!). Thought it was my driving at first
then I drove my MG and she drove solid w/ no stumble and same driver so it ain't me or my foot.
Its not too bad and hasn't really bugged me, tho.
No yo-yo.

MCS built August 16, 2002. Stumble present until version 32.2. After that, only a hiccup. Dealer told me today that another new version (not 34.0) solves the problem and will notify me when available.
Picked up car in June
Stumble from day one.
Recent fix at Montvale, NJ better for a few days.
Now problem is sporadic. Good 20% of time. Bad the rest.
Also notice lack of power.
Quite pronounced difference in performance at different times. tHe engine seems to work harder under same road conditions sometimes, better others.
Wonder about relationship to outside temperature as it seems to run better in cooler weather.
Performance in warmer weather reminds me of the old days with carburators that had sticky chokes that didn't always open all the way.
PLEASE find a fix. I have scheduled the SECOND visit with my dealer. If it goes to three, I may be looking for another solution. (LEMON LAW). Don't wan't to! HEEEEELP!
