Boot Opening by Itself

My boot has been unlatched several times in the morning when I get ready to head out. The car's garaged, so it hasn't bothered me yet. I figured that I'd have it looked at when I bring it in for its first service.
This moring I put the fob in place to start up and the boot went "pop" and opened up.
Weird.

Anybody else?

do you have the convenience package? if so it will unlock when you get close to the boot... mom didn't know this about her MINI so i had to show her she was doing it...
also there is an unlock boot button on the key, are you maybe pushing it somehow?

That was how it was first advertised, but the car does not unlock when you get close to it. You still have to push on the black rubber button on the door handle to get it to unlock.

For the boot, you have to push the bump underneath the handle for it to unlock. It doesn't unlock by itself, either.

I don't have the convenience pack ---- and it's opening, not just unlocking. It did it while the key fob was on the table in the kitchen and when it was in the ignition and I was ready to start the car.
It's definitely a gremlin. I'm just wondering if it's in the fob or in the car. I haven't gotten the fob wet but I can never tell what my wife has done. She's run other things through the laundry and tried to "fix" them...

Are you sure it's properly latched in the first place? On mine, I noticed when I close it that I just have to make sure its a firm slam on the trunk. If Its done too hard( my wife, if you can believe it, slams the door harder than I do), the trunk tends to not latch properly and I get the ding that the trunk's not properly closed. SOmehow closing too hard fails to latch the trunk door properly like it bounces back out before properly latch closure. Might want to see if that's your problem. It might seem like it closed after a hard push down but if you look closely and feel the door to the body, they're not properly aligned.

It went "pop" yesterday, the mechanical unlatch sound it makes when you press/hold the unlatch button on the fob. I definately didn't press the button....

There was another thread recently about water getting into the switch on the hatch and shorting it out, causing it to unlatch by itself.

On the hatch itself? Weird.
But it might make sense then. When I open the car door and throw power to the interior lights, the short to ground might be tripping the auto-release in the boot.
Thanks.
Is there a remedy besides taking it to the dreaded dealer-of-no-return?

Yes on the hatch itself, behind that long piece that hides the license plate lights and hatch touchpad.
