While replacing my air filter, i wasn't careful enough and one of the two plastic brackets on the left side (opposite the torx screws) broke off. There is no big air gap, but the cover sits up about a millimeter higher where the bracket once was. Should I get a new housing cover ASAP? What do I tell the dealer? Anyone know the part number?

I don't have an answer but...
I broke a clip on mine too! they are really easy to break.
I broke it when taking it off a while back to put on my Pipercross Viper intake.. I guess I'll buy a new cover if I ever decide to put the stock one back on.

Your other option is to buy the MiniMania "cold air" intake. This uses the stock airbox but replaces the cover, filter, and intake tube.

For the Cooper (non-S) Part# 13-72-1-477-831 "Air Muffler" List $62.25 It's the entire assembly (includes top, bottom & a new OEM filter) Unfortunately you can't get just the top by itself.

I broke mine too on the left side while installing a K&N filter. I can't tell if there's any adverse effect as a result of this, even though that side may be 1mm or more higher.
