I have a 2006 mini cooper S - Automatic

My car is leaking a clear oily consistency type fluid from the front. I'm not quite sure what it is. I saw a few threads on the thermastat leaking and the main housing unit for the breaks???

I called the dealer and they had no idea since the people who work in mini don't know much about the cars they are selling.

I was thinking it could be:
hydraulic fluid from the breaks?
power steering fluid
transmission fluid?

I really have no idea but it's clear oily but looks like water.. any ideas and feed back would be much appreciated I don't want to drive on it and have it kill me literally!

Thank you!

it is an 06, just take it in for a warranty repair!

check all the fluid levels before you drive it, then take it in.

yeah! I made an appointment for tomorrow since they were booked today. which sucks big time having to drive on it and worry if it's going to get any worse.

But for sanity reasons any idea what it might be? I haven't checked the levels yet going to on lunch.

My 2005 MCSC has the same problem. A clear, oily leak from the right front of the car. I am deployed right now and did not get a chance to get it in to the shop before I left. If you find out what it was, I would definitely be interested in the answer. BTW, all of my fluids were good to go. I was paranoid about it as well and triple checked them all. I have a feeling it might be the motor mount and it leaked all of the fluid out.

Loesches, it's funny you mentioned the motor mount when I called again the guy at the dealership said it could be that or the thermastat. I will keep you posted it seems to be directly in the middle of the engine.

Well good luck getting it taken care of. Hopefully it is not something too serious!

I think it is the Thermostat. I have the older design without the motor mount that can leak and had the issue every once in a while. The dealer found the bad tstat seal when I had it in and I forgot to tell them about it. I have not seen the problem since then.

Yep Leel is right,

I took it in 2 weeks ago and had the problem fixed, it was the Thermostat and the Engine mount was leaking hydraulic fluid as well. OH to top it off there was a loose vacuum hose on my JCW intake.. Gotta love it! woo.

Thank god for the warranty, fixed everything no hassle.

yeah 02-06 MINIs are like problem dogs named Rover You never know what'll happen next, but ya just soooo love yr doggie and yr car...

I was going to suggest a leak in the steering system near the transxale. the internal seals can blow and leak fluid internally and externally. check yr PS fluid every couple weeks or so, but dont it top off unless it's low, just swing by the dealer. It is NOT reg store PS fluid but very $$$ Pentosin hydraulic fluid. CHF 11 or something like that

That (E-H PS Rack, a Rover holdover) was the first thing that blew on my car, but it didnt leave me stranded. I didnt even notice until I checked it one day and it was empty--but no visible leaking. The bellows filled up with HF like a water balloon!

And if there's any consolation: replacement parts seem to hold up better than factory. Weird, eh?
