i'm new to the MINI as it's my first and i keep reading about software updates from the MINI dealers. what i wanted to know was a) how can i check to see if i have the latest updates on my own. and b) i assume the dealer charges if any new updates come out? if so, whats the usual fee? wanted to see if my cvt software needed updating.

I don't believe that there is any way for you to determine the software level in your car. The dealer doesn't charge for software updates while your car is under warranty. The only updates that would be charged for would be map updates if you have the NAV.

 

Then updates for the Nav unit may or may not be charged either.

I just had mine updated during an oil service and I wasn't charged.

 

ok thanks but, what if i am out of warranty (which i am -2003 R50- no navigation either BTW)? and then an updated software comes out for say my CVT or whatever to correct an issue? they are going to charge me for an issue that should have been rectified before the vehicle was shipped? if so, which i will go ahead and say they will charge, what is the usual fee for the little time it takes to do the software updates?
