DSC and Brake Light
DSC and Brake Light
Hello, I have a 2007 mini and I'm having this weird problem. Everytime I start my mini up and after 30 second to a minute the DSC and brake lights goes on (yellowish light). I stopped and turn off the engine and re-start but same thing. I tried to turn off the DSC but something happen. Another thing I notice is whenever the light goes on and I turn my turn signal it does not go off by itself. I re-started the car and before the DSC light came on I tested the turn signal and it works fine. Sometime, I shut off the engine and the wiper goes on and I can't turn it off until I start the engine. Is my mini possessed???

I have the same problem, only with my car it only occurs after I hit the 200km/h. Often immediately, but sometimes after a few minutes when driving 120km/h (legal top-speed) again. Pretty weird, because after 30 seconds it magically disappears...
Normally the key stores al the errors, but he doesn't store this one...

Combo of DSL, yellow parking brake light, deranged wipers when engine off, and non-cancelling turn signals--this is the SZL quartet. I had mine replaced about 2 months ago. Now that the parts are on this side of the pond (including those for the auto-wiper models), it's a synch. The software flash will take longer than the part replacement. On the good side, if you have auto-wipers, you'll now be able to use the button at the end of the stalk instead of having to push it up to engage. Works for me!
Can someone help me? I have the same problem, my MCS r56 is only 3 weeks old, i bought the car in miami and exported to my country (Paraguay, South America) We don´t have here people who understand the problem, also there are not official dealer nor agent of mini. What is the part or parts identification number so i can send someone to buy the piece for me and i will change it. thanks in advance for your help
I had this problem and took my car in. After two days they gave it back and told me that it was low on brake fluid. This was at 4600 miles. Since then I have not experienced the problem. But I do now have the funky diesel sounding at startup on cold days. Watching those threads to see the outcome. Also found out that not only was the brake fluid low. But recently. Took the care in at 10700 miles and found the care had burned almost 2 quarts of oil. Check to make sure the dealer didn't screw you when you pick up your car. I suspect it was low from the start and I have been relying on the dealer way to much.
I just got this problem last Thursday - I've had 4 DSC failure warnings show up on my Nav screen since then. I called the dealer, they're aware of the issue and I'm bringing it in on Wednesday to have the module swapped out.
They've got the parts in stock, so it must be a pretty routine issue at this time.

Well, apparently they aren't just swapping out the DSC modules anymore, but instead ordering parts to fix them. I called, verified the module was in stock and then dropped my car off for service. That was last Wednesday and I'm still in the loaner. Hopefully the parts to fix the module come in on Monday so I can get back to driving my car by Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.

Sorry kfmuller for the delay, but this delay falls squarely in MINI's lap and in no way shuld reflect on the local dealer. It seems MINI should have auto shipped us a supply of this replacement kit if we were no longer allowed to replace the SZL assembly.
Yeah, my local dealer (MINI of Dallas) has always provided me with excellent service, in the rare event that I've needed it.
Gene and Marc in the service department and Jeff and Jorge in sales really take the time to make you feel like you've bought one of the really expensive BMW's.
The point of my post was that I thought I did my homework regarding this issue, and that this was going to be a quick fix. Then, low and behold, it's turned into a week without my car. I have Sirius satellite radio, so it's tough listening to regular radio again.
If that's the biggest problem I have w/ my 2007 MCS, then I'm doing just fine. I'm still trying to decide if I want to order a factory JCW's this summer. If I do, I'll be back to MINI of Dallas for MINI number 4.

My two lights were on and my dealer replaced the optical unit of the SZL module. They replaced the damaged foggy one w/ a clear one and my problem has gone away. I don't know that adding brake fluid corrects the issue for good.
Murathan: I have never seen that light combo. It looks like your car is not a US spec car. Where you have the low brake fluid light US car's have a light that says BRAKE as mubex's picture shows. I hope you find a speedy resolution to your problem.

Your lights were DSC and yellow brake light not red in mubex's case. He also have the low brake fluid light in the digital speedo display where as you did not. This will correct the issue as I had the same lights come on. After topping off the brake fluid the issue has not occurred.
I'm curious, too. The DSL light is obvioiusly on, but I think the other one is a general "problem" light.
If the car's parking brake is on, that brake light WOULD be red. It's only yellow (assuming the SZL failure) if the car is moving or the driver has his/her foot on the brake--not parked.)

When I had the issue the trio of lights would always come on during a long sweeper, where the DSC might possibly engage. With low brake fluid the DSC can't properly function properly as it individually brakes each wheel.
