SES light came on....
My SES light comes on and off and it's making me nuts. It started when the abient temperature goes below 40F. The light would stay on when i turned the car on 3 times and the 4th it would usually turn off. Any suggestions what i could be. I thought maybe it had something to do with the colder air advancing the timing which adds more fuel causing the o2 to go off.
You're probably like me , miles away from a MINI dealer.
But you can go to Autozone and buy a code reader, on sale for under $60. But you also need a MINI Bentley manual(not for Bentley cars its a brand of manual) I had a ses light ,just fixed it myself, yesterday with those items. It was a loose electrical connection on the airbox, sometimes it could be a loose fuel cap too. You need to read the code and compare it in the manual.

I know autozone will also pull the code for free and tell you what it is.
As a side note I had Autozone stick the reader on my MINI. They stuck the plug on and almost pulled the car apart getting it off. There is a little snap that I snipped off of mine so it will come off easily.
damn! I thought I was clever ,but now the stupid light is back on
light is back on
I will try to do something about it in the morning. Boy this is getting old

P1237
Same number code. P1237. The trouble with figuring out what is wrong with the car is you need to know what the manual is referring to, its very techy .A MINI SM I called said P1237 was a O2 sensor, I put some bad gas in it a while ago, (a very small amount) so that could be the problem.Trending Topics
I think I fixed P1237
Reading old threads here I noticed some reference to vaccuum leaks and P1237 ,so I poked around and found the JCW air box vaccuum line to the bypass vlv pulled off
.It was probably pulled off the tee when I was checking the air cleaner, because I tie wrapped the vacuum line to the little hose coming off the intake hose.Pulling the big hose off the air box must have yanked the tie wrap and pulled off the vacuumm line off the tee.
