Noise!

Hello my fellow Mini group.

I have noticed a noise that seems to be coming from the front wheels.
It sound like a coat hanger hitting metal. "tick" "tick" "tick"
It happens on slow start in the first gear under 10mph. Noticed it when in indoor parking garages. Real annoying sound cause I'm always listening for it. Any clues? I removed the front wheel, nothing out of place or caught.

My car is a 2006 MCS-JCW.

Thank you,
Joseph

It could be a nail stuck in the tire.

Hi there.

I checked for that too. The tires are nail free.

Really hard to pin down noise issue over the web... But with a few question/answers we might be able to narrow it down...

....Does it change with RPM or wheel speed??

....Does it only happen at first start up and or after a drive??

....During Acceleration or Braking (or both)?

I know with mine- I hear the lifter/cam noise when I am very close to walls (like protected on ramps or tunnels)..

Maybe this helps??

Do you have two-piece wheels, others have posted on NAM about those ticking.

Just as a test to try to narrow down the options, rotate the tires front to back and see if the noise moves.

I had something like this when I had my s-heavies with dust sheilds on. Removing the dust sheilds, although they had clearance, solved the issue. But the most likely situation is something in the tread, my mom's car had alot of rocks in the tread and it makes a lot of clickity sounds at low speed till the tire noise drowns it out.

Just in case, check this thread out:

Mine started out pretty much the same way, then grew into the "playing card on bicycle spokes" version. Just a thought.
