Battery Cable problem

Hey guys and gals. I had some problems recently with my 2003 Mini Cooper. Yesterday i was disconnecting the battery and the positive terminal clamp broke. The stud snapped in half. So, to get that part only i will have to buy a completely new battery cable from Mini of Dallas at a cost of $130. Does anybody know if they have an extra part laying around or of a place i could get one?

I appreciate the help.

Couldn't you get a generic clamp and modify the existing cable?

I did this on my truck rather than purchasing a whole new cable.

new clamp cost a couple of bucks at NAPA etc.

$130 for a cable...that absurd. :impatient

If it's only the stud with the 10mm nut on it, the easier thing to do is to get a cheaper negative cable and salvage the stud from there, but that's still wasteful. I have to investigate if the terminals used on later GM products are similar to the ones used in the MINI (they look very similar between my new truck and the MINI). If so, the part might be usable from GM at a much lower cost and easier availability.

The parts dept at Mini of Dallas did some research and found that BMW sells just that 10mm stud for $20. I've been working on it for the past hour or so and think i have a rigged solution. I'll let you guys know if it works.

thanks for the help.

well, after i last posted i decided to see if i could fix it on my own since the part was already ruined it couldnt really get much worse. I drilled out the old post and tapped the hole with a 1/4"-20 tap and threaded a bolt up from what would be the bottom. I ground the head flat and checked it when i got home from work. It works perfect. The bolt it a little long but that's an easy fix. I think i'll go ahead and pick up that part next time i'm up at MoD just in case.
