Weird interior light issues...NE1 have this?

OK, weird things going on in my 2002 COOPER....when I put my key in the ignition and turn to position 1 or 2 or turn the car ON...my interior lights come on (Not the dome lights)...my tach, speedo, radio etc all come, just like I had turned on my running lights, but I haven't turned them on....has anyone had this same problem? I guess it's not really a big deal but I'd rather things work the way they are supposed to....is this my headlight or ignition switch going bad or possibly the MINI way of saying I've got a burned out bulb somewhere???

If anyone can help shed on light on this issue I would greatly appreciate it!!!!

Figured I'd bump this up one more time....I can't beleive I'm the only one to have this issue? It's either the ignition switch or the dimmer switch for the lights....both of which cost an arm and a leg I'm sure :(

Have you tried unpluging the battery for a while? Worth a shot I guess.

No I haven't tried that yet.....I had some work done at a local repair facility (not a Mini dealership) had my DSC pump replaced and also my PS fan and I don't remember if it started doing it the day I got it back (during daylight hours)...I noticed it a few days later while rolling into my parking garage at work....I know they had the battery undone cuz I had to reset my clock/radio....I know they had to do some "coding" when the DSC pump was replaced...I wonder if setting the lights is an option???

I guess it's not that big of a deal but I'd rather have the car working properly....another thing I noticed this morning....normally when I have the key in the ignition and the door open I get a ding ding ding....I didn't get that this morning...that's what make me think its ignition switch related???

Anyone else have and idear's?? Thanks Nabeshin!!

Could be the Body Control Module (BCM), it controls all lights, wipers, door locks, windows, etc.

Does everything turn off when you turn off the car? A new BCM is not cheap, if things turn off, don't worry about it, unless it really bugs you.

Hey thanks lotsie....yes right now, everything works as it should and everything turns off when the key is removed....one thing I've noticed here lately is the driver window....I'm not sure what it's called but when you open the door the window glass goes down just a hair and then once the door is closed it moves back up....sometimes thats not working?? Could they be related?

Thanks to all for any help!!!

The glass is normal, it does that on any car without a supporting frame around the glass. When you open the door the glass unseals and the motor moves it down a notch, when you close the door the glass pushes back up and reseals. If it doesn't do this then be worried, as you would have problems.

Sometimes the window get out of wack. Roll both windows down all the way, and hold the toggle down for a 10 count, then roll them all the way back up, this should get them back in sync.

Also if a window is not ALL the way up, even an 1/8 of an inch, it won't do the up/down dance. Make sure the windows are all the way up.

Once again lotsie....I wasn't putting the glass up completely so the drivers side has been working properly since.....still have the lights going on even though I don't have the running/headlights turned on.....I'm starting to wonder if this wasn't caused by the fix I had done on the PS fan/radiator fan...I wonder what wire he tapped into to seperate the 2 fans????

PS/fan fix should have nothing to do with it, as it is split at the fuse box I think.

Cold be an issue with the Body control module, it controls everything except the back up light, which is a switch in the tranny.

Not sure if the reader will detect it, but I do know it will cost way more than a nickel or a dime to replace it. Not sure how much though.
