12000 mile inspection interval question??
12000 mile inspection interval question??
i have a copule of questions....i have an 06 s convertible...i recently had battery replaced under warranty while the car was in there they cahnged my oil for free...but they did not reset the service interval..but said to bring it in for inspection whenb the interval is at zero...i think it say like 1900 miles till inspection when i start my car...here is the questions1. Do i need to have them insepct the car and does it cost?
2. Will it affect my warranty if i dont have it done?
3. How do i or can i reset the interval my self if i dont have it done?
Thanks
Wade
Unless it's a miserable trek to the dealer, what's the harm in having them do a service that is free under the maintenance plan?
Take a look at your owners manual to see what's involved...there are quite a few items they'll look at, and a few (filters and such) that they'll probably have to change.
Some dealers will hand you a loaner car for the day if you set the appointment in advance.
Really more upsides than downsides to getting it done, IMO.

The dealer from what I have read on NAM can't do the inspection till 1k miles or less. One person was turned away at 50 miles to go and was told to come back when at zero. Sounds like you have a nice dealer for changing the oil! I dont think they will get paid for that one.
If you get your computer reset in 1900 miles, it sounds like the only downside is that you'll have an extra 1900 miles on your oil (that the computer won't register). If you're counting on the dealer to change it at the computer recommended interval next time, it will be WAY overdue, so you'll want to consider an interim change yourself.
As far as your warranty, if anything goes wrong with your car that MIGHT have been found during that inspection in 1900 miles, well, you can guess the outcome. Best advice is to follow the dealer's recommendation.

When they changed the oil, was the car over a year old already? If so, they can change the oil for free as that's part of the maintenance (once a year or per the indicator, whichever comes first). When it's time to take it back for inspection/maintenance, they'll probably change the oil again and reset the counter.
