Sudden Power Loss Like No Turbo

I have a 6 month old mini S 2007 R56... I am having an issue where the car seems like the turbo just doesn't go. Today the first time it ever happened!

Came up to a red light on my way home, started up and it seemed like there was less power, got up to about 4000 rpm, and no push... like I was in 6th gear i pushed the pedal to the floor, and in second gear nothing... in my mind I had no idea what the problem could be... it was like the turbo wasn't spooling or anything, then when i let off the gas and we came to the next light, I diddnt hear even the slightest amount of the waste gate, normally you can get a slight 'pshh' so I pulled over, turned off the car, as usually that gets the warning lights to come on, but nothing!

Drove all the way home in my "limp state" as the closest mini dealer is 60 miles, and were closed.
It was like having a non 'S'... ever have anything like that happen? Taking it into the dealer tomorrow, hopefully they don't pat me on the head and say its normal

and of course when I went back out to show someone else the car was being normal except for a weird idle, wobbling between 500 and 1000rpm when at stoplights, but theres definitely a lack of power now.

REPAIRED... for now!

They ran a diagnosis, and since when I got to the dealer, the car was doing the idle problem and they saw and heard it my odds were helped, they found it to be something on the bulletin for a known problem... long story short, they ran a "computer update" reset my mini and all was well!

Maybe the high temp finally seized up the turbo bearings.

Problem is yesterday was like 62degrees outside, and I was just cruising side streets dropped it off today.

"Sounds like a computer problem."

So we'll see what happens!

turbo piping

The turbo pipes can pop of and you would lose boost. A turbo car with no boost can feel like a dog!!!!

So the computer just 'went bad'? Odd. FWIW, jascooper reported similar problem recently. Last report, it seemed to be due to bad gasoline.

thats kinda odd that the ecu caused it. Normally it would be a pop intercooler hose or a stuck open wastegate etc. Steve

Kind of annoying, the computer seems to be pretty sensitive to jump into the "limp mode" and limp mode on a 1.6 that is tuned for boost must be terrible.
