knocking sound on deceleration?

Nevermind. Lesson: don't work on your MINI in the dark.
I jacked up my 2006 HB/W MCS tonight to change a foglight. I put it down and headed to the auto parts store 'cause I bought the wrong size bulb. At the first stoplight, I let up off the accelerator and the car made a funny knocking noise. I turned around and took the wheel off again, my first thought being that there was something rubbing against the tire, because it is a persistent knocking sound.
No luck there, took it out for another test drive, and discovered that the car only makes this horrible knocking noise when coasting or decelerating. It makes the steering wheel vibrate, too. It's kind of a persistent thunking sound that increases with speed. Inspected the passenger side engine mount with a flashlight, but there aren't any obvious signs of failure. I can move it by pushing on the engine, but not much.
Any ideas? Is my car safe to drive an hour and a half to the dealership? Not sure what's causing this knocking/vibrating...
