Shredded belt, bad tensioner.

I have had the serpentine belt and the tensioner replaced on my '05 MCc with 32k miles on it twice by the dealer. While they are content with fixing it under warranty, I want to know why my little old Cooper is shredding the belt.

Anyone have any ideas?

On a Cooper does the tensioner do the same thing as it does on the S when the belt breaks. Does it also go crashing into the crank pulley?

If so, and you had a belt break on you, the crank pulley could be slightly damaged (like a burr or something) that's eating through the belt.

The belt actually never broke. But being highly attuned to my car the way that I am I heard a change in the engine sound early enough to bring it to the dealer.
