SES Codes through On Board Computer

SES Codes through On Board Computer
The wife ran through some standing water that was four or five inches deep which stalled the car. Apon start up there is a clacking noise after the event. Pushed the car to it's resting place and we out to examine the car when the weather let up. There are no obvious reasons for the rough idle/clanking, no water was sucked through the intake, no water in the oil, and there was no SES light till this morning.
I let the car sit over night and tryed starting it again. It seemed better after sitting but something is still wrong. After running for about 20 seconds, the RPMS went up to 1500RPM and back down followed by a SEL light. I have a feeling that one cyclender is not firing as there is a distinct raw fuel smell while was running.
I know there was a way to access OBD-II codes through on board computer, but I am having a hard time finding the documenation. If someone would be kind enough to link it for me, I would greatly appreciate it.

u need a diagram of the OBD2 connector pin out. i can get it for you tomorrow at work at like 12:30 if you can wait. you'll need to jump 2 points with a paper clip then turn the ignition on, engine off. count how many times the check engine light flashes. it will flash each code 3 times. so say it flashes 3 times, followed by a short pause, and then 4 more times. thats code 34. then it will repeat two more times and go on to the next if there are multiple codes. i've never had to jump the connector on a mini but this procedure works for most cars.

Dude buy a scanner. With today's cars a scanner is just a tool that is a must have. I've bought wrenches that cost more than a scanner, so there really aren't any excuses to not have one.
An contrary to internet lore... not all Autozones will read the codes for free. They looked at me like I was crazy the first place I asked... then I crossed to a different state and they flat out said no... so I bought my own scanner.
Oh.. good luck btw. I hope it all works out. Probably just needs to dry out

MRmidge and chpsk8, you're right. I dropped by auto zone this morning and bought a $60 scan tool. Hooked it up to my car and it said the cat is not with in threshold (duh, there isn't any) and there was an issue with the knock sensor. Hooked it up to the wife's MINI, "misfire on cyclender 1."
Back off to auto zone for new plugs.
BTW, I did check last night, there was no indication of water in the spark plug wells.
