Air Filter Installation?
OK, I'm a dummy. I just got a K & N air filter and can't figure out how to get the box open to install it. Can anyone give me step by step instructions. I got as far as the two screws in the front and that was it. Help!

I just put a K&N in last week. I have a Cooper, not an S so hopefully you have a Cooper too or these instructions may be wrong.
I found it to be simple, though I had to vacuum some sand out of my airbox! Must have been the last road rally I did, http://members.rogers.com/hpulley8/discoverontario.html
Anyways, there isn't much more to undo than the two screws. It is only held on by two screws (torx #25 or use a hex nut driver) on the driver's side (NA) and two clips on the passenger side. Unscrew the screws as much as they'll go (they won't come out of the lid so when they stop rising, you're done) then lift up from the right side a bit and then slide the cover toward the driver's side to slip it out of the clips. Then lift up, remove the funny orange surrounded half-paper, half-foam stock filter and replace with the K&N. If you find the box is very dirty like mine was, you may want to get out a Shop Vac or Dirt Devil before installing the K&N. Then put the lid back on a bit toward the driver's side, slide it toward the passenger's side until the clips are locked, make sure it is secure all the way around and tighten the screws.
BTW, the instructions mention a lid gasket but it doesn't actually come with one for the Cooper. I'm told that is fine. If yours came with a gasket, please let me know ASAP!
It seems to give me a little more power, though butt dynos are always suspect. Fuel mileage is no better but if you punch it, what do you expect?

If you have an S I've found it easier to remove the plastic intercooler cover first. Once this is out of the way you can lift the cover off towards the front with the hose still attached. Hope this helps.

Me again. I finally called Niello Mini and they gave me the scoop on how to get to the filter. Here is what I was told and did: 1.Remove the small bolts at the front of the box ( You don't have to take them out of the box) 2. Unsnap the jumper cable box on the left of the airbox 3. Remove the clamp on the hose at the front of the box with a screwdriver and remove the hose (The clamp broke and I installed a new one that will be easier for future access) 4) Push the airbox back slightly and lift it up and forward. 5) Take out the old filter and put in the new one. Easy, even I can do it! Good luck.

I drive the MC also and installed the K&N air filter over a month ago. The two screws do come off, and I did get a gasket w ith an adhesive backing to be used for the filter box.
