Shift linkage coming apart!

The linkage on my 2007 MCS is nice and light but also solid.

However, the bolt that holds the shifter/selecter plate onto the splined
shaft on top of the transmission (on the outside just underneath the radiator overflow tank), has come loose twice. The first symptom is that I can't find reverse, then can't find reverse or first or second etc.

Then a little black plastic piece comes loose...

Anyway, it is easy to retighten, and everything is fine, but I figure there must be some missing lock washer or locktite or something on my car....

The bolt has a inverse-torx head (not hard to find that socket at autozone).

Anyway, it was scarey - thought something really bad happened.
But I have tightened it a few times how - will get to the dealer sometime soon...

Why not have it fixed under warranty? I paid 25k plus for my car if something is falling off or breaking due to a manufacturing fault I would let them fix it and have a work order on file with Mini showing a complaint and a repair in case it keeps happening.

That's the plan

I will get to the dealer "soon" - I was sort of waiting for something else to happen or a service was due...

Happened to me twice. Flatbedded to dealer both times, as I wasn't keen on trying to correct myself, lest I mess something up and get blamed for it. 2nd time dealer ordered me a new set of shift cables and replaced both.
