engine fan keeps blowing fuse

i tried a search, and had no real luck. my engine fan keeps blowing the 5amp fuse located under the hood. therefore the fan doesn't run and the engine overheats when sitting still long enough. now from what i read, the ps fan and the engine fan are connected, but when this fuse blows i still have ps and no issues with it. so my question is why would this fuse constantly blow out? is there a fix? or is the fix getting this wire harness from the dealership that seperates these two things?
sorry if this was asked many times before, b ut i found nothing. and any help is appreciated.
o, it's an 02 mcs.
thanx

Hi, Ja

Replace your power steering fan. It is on the same circuit.

The power steering pump and the power steering fan are on two separate circuits. The PS will continue to function even if the PS fan (along with the engine fan) circuit fuse blows. The PS fan is part of a control circuit protected by the small 5 amp fuse. This control circuit also triggers the large radiator fan (which actually has it's own fuse). The poorly designed PS fan seizes up and takes out the control circuit, preventing the engine fan from operating. The PS fan has not been redesigned, so it's doomed to a perpetual cycle of failure and replacement, with the potential of harming the engine from overheating. There is a little-known wiring harness fix from MINI that will fuse the PS fan itself, apart from the control circuit that keeps the remaining circuitry functioning in the inevitable case of PS fan failure. You still have to periodically check the fuse for the PS fan to ensure it's still operating.

so i talked with the dealer today. they told me that i had to check the PS fan to see if it needed replacing. which it does, but he wouldn't give any info the wire harness to seperate the rad fan from the ps fan. he did tell me that there was a harness to do this, but i had to, for lack of better wording, qualify for it. now if i'm gonna dump $200 on a ps fan, i want this wire harness. so can anyone tell me if there is a part number for it, or how to get it from them through service or whatever? as i was talking with the service dept as well, and they couldn't find it in thier system.
thanx again guys for the help.
later

Hey, that’s the same way I blew my engine. The early 02’s had the same fuse for the PS fan and radiator fan. My fuse blew and the engine was soon to follow. The second engine (I’m on my third now) was supposed to have the fan fuses separated. Get that checked out it will ruin your car.

Whoever your dealer is must, they need some serious HELP. Tell them to look up Service Bulletin # S1 M 32 01 04 and ask them how much they will charge to install it.
