My 2006 MCS does some variation of this, and it has nothing to do with the key fobs. I would park at the airport and go away on a business trip and get back to hit the unlock button and hear it click but the lights not light up (meaning it was already unlocked). It's like it just unlocks itself at random while I was gone. It's done it several times and the patterns seems to be just when it's locked for a long period of time (like 2-4 days). Strange indeed, but glad mine doesn't roll down all the windows and open the sunroof.

This just happened to me!

Of course the only time that it has happened is when it's been raining.

Luckily everything was damp and not soaked. Can't believe it.

If I'm out of warranty, is Mini covering this? Anyone know before I call?

They will deny it happened. It was a 3 month ordeal for us. In the end we forced them to replace the unit in the door that controlled this function (obviously moisture was getting into it and making connections) and that fixed it. It was a known issue on BMW's.

Yeah, I called the Mini dealer and they have no idea what happened.

Their advise was to "keep an eye on it".

So if this happens again when we get a ton of snow or even worse case scenario someone steals personal items.. Then what??

Was or is yours still under warranty when this occurred?

Did you have any out of pocket costs?

This thread has me laughing pretty hard now I'm in a really good mood! I can only imagine living in an area where it snows a lot and you come outside to get in your Mini and windows and sunroof wide open car full of snow!

windows opening without assist

Hey my MINI was doing this yesterday and a mechanic removed the fuse for the window. I can't roll down my passenger side window, but my driver side works and my sunroof is staying closed. worked for me and hope it helps someone.

Just happened to me...

Just happened to me this morning with my R60.
I go out to the car, in the pouring rain, and all the windows are down and the sunroof popped up?!!
First thought was someone had broken into the car! But why roll all teh windows down?
Car is completely soaked inside! Of course, it had to happen during the worst rain we've had in months. Ugh.
I had no idea, till this morning, after some "online research" that
A) this isn't something new. And
B) one could hold the unlock button and roll the windows down.

Only, in my case, no one was touching the key fobs. They were sitting on the counter, too far away to even actuate the locks.

The dealer didn't sound "surprised" when I told them what had just happened...hopefully that's a good sign.

Car goes into the dealer Tuesday morning...to be continued.

12 degrees and my windows went half down

We had a sudden cold snap tonight. I moved my car to let a friend out the driveway, came back out a short time later and both passenger and driver side windows are down half-way. I know I didn't do it.

Yes, Mini of Hartford sucks. I am also having trouble, which it stopped...so it's intermittent...of sport mode turning on and off. If anyone knows of a place that handles all the electronics in Western, MA...Northern, CT let me know. I refuse to go to Mini Service...they are certified Aholes.

Windows and doors

After getting out of the car (or even if you open and shut the door while you're in the car) the windows roll down and the sunroof opens as if the unlock buttom was held down. Then it won't lock or if we lock it from the key in the door it unlocks itself.

My wife asked me why I unlocked the car and left the windows down all night this morning as we park on the street. I thought she was crazy. Then she came home from work and said as soon as she got out of the car the windows rolled down. I tried with my fob and it seemed ok only to come out 10 minutes later and the windows were down and the doors were unlocked.

Then we drove to a neighbor and the car wouldn't lock the door as we were driving. Even the lock button on the center console wouldn't work. When we got there we got out and closed the door - immediately the windows came down etc.

Has this ever happened to anyone????
My car started out by unlocking itself, but tonight the windows, sunroof and door locks, all opened by themselves. I duplicated it by pressing the unlock button twice then holding it down. The doors and sunroof all came open. Is this intentional on the part of mini? Can you do something to close and lock them all altogether? I have had to turn the ignition on to get them to close.

It’s the control module.

This is a known problem for BMWs and MINIs.
Happened to my Countryman. Came out in the morning to find all the windows down and sunroof popped up...after it had POURED all night.
The module/computer that controls the “convenience feature” that does the same function, (double click unlock and hold, if I remember correctly) can malfunction and open all the windows, etc. on its own.
Surprised(not surprised) a rep said they’d never heard of it. MINI replaced mine and dried all the carpets, etc. while my car was still under warranty.
