Heated mirrors question...

Hey guys
I just wanted to know if the heated mirrors on a 2007 MCS are on all the time, or only once a certain temperature is attained (ex. -10degrees)?
On the previous models, they seemed to go on all the time, but on my buddy's new 07 they don't go on when the car is started up.
Is this a defect?
I searched online and couldn't find anything, if anyone could link me with a document to show him or something, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks!

I believe the manual states the mirrors only heat up when the car detects the outside temperature is low enough. I would suppose below freezing.

From page 31 of your owner's manual:

"Automatic heating*
At outside temperatures below a certain limit,
both exterior mirrors are automatically heated
while the engine is running or the ignition switched on."
