You have got to be kidding me!
Is this for real, do you really need to disassemble the Mini that far to replace the clutch?
No, it can be done with the engine in the car, the tranny does need to come out but the entire engine/transmission assembly does not need to be removed.
...if u gonna change ur clutch Kit, you have to pull the engine totaly out from the car ... I dunno how much they will charge me
A really good Mini tech can do a clutch and flywheel in 6 hours or less. The going rate though is $1800 or so including parts so my guess is the flat rate is about 12 hours.
He is a very good tech.. he told me there is 2 types.. which u can assemble the transmission without the engine and the other type is you have to pull it out from the front.. even i asked the dealer they told me the yeah, you have to take it from the front :S

Uh... if you're paying $1800 for a clutch you're out of your mind. The parts are about $300 and any good mechanic can do it in 4-6 hours. 75x6 = $450.
Danny at Mini Corsa in LA can do them in about 4-5 hours and I think he charges $450 flat (Don't quote me on that).
My clutch was done at a local shop owned by a guy who has a MINI. It was his first clutch job on a MINI, but the guy was like a 25yr veteran mechanic. He did the job in maybe 6 hours of working time, but had other cars to work on so it took 2 days and cost $900 (the cheapest quote I could find in this area from places willing to work on a MINI) He removed less parts than k-huevo, and was super carefull and put it back properly (no pinched wires, no left over parts, nothing missing) I went in to see progress sevral times.
:S I dunno why he did this.
Now I have another problem :S I think My 2sec synchos is gone...
can i fix this problem without changing the whole transmission ????
I recently had to replace my 2003 MCS transmission and it set me back $2600 for a used 2006 MCS transmission with 5k miles and an LSD (that amount also includes the overnight shipping I had to pay, in addition to sending the core back). I received quotes from the dealer of ~$3300 for a refurbished transmission without LSD and ~$4500 with LSD. I certainly hope you don't have to go about getting your transmission replaced, as that's definitely an expensive endeavor.
