Central Light Cluster?

Hi everyone,

Have just noticed that one of the side buttons on the central light cluster (the one just above your head) has fallen off! I can't seem to attach it back in - which probably means that it's somehow snapped off. Is there any way I can replace this button, or would I need to get the whole cluster replaced?

Any one else had any issues with this?

I actually found the button on the floor, so I don't even know how it broke in the first place. Strange.

Thanks in advance.

Oh. And I just thought of something else which has been bugging me too. My Driver side window seems to squeal when I use it? Noticed that this only seems to happen on cold days? Anyone else have this problem - or knows of a solution?

I had that button fall off of my 2004 MINI. Unfortunately, neither myself by looking though realoem.com nor my local MINI parts counter could find just the button available, so I had to purchase the whole light unit. Fortunately, the whole unit was about $50 (USD) and the replacement was a piece of cake. Two screws and disconnecting/reconnecting a wire harness and the job was done.

Of course, if your MINI is still under warranty, it should be covered.

As for the squeaking window, my '04 did it, and it looks like that my '06 is starting to. Never bothered me enough to figure out what was wrong and how to fix it, and I always forgot to mention it to the dealer when I brought my MINI for service.

The button does have a part number. Gray is 63316988172. The window squeak is a possible window regulator issuue. There have been many reports on the problem, but get it replaced if the car is still under warranty. And remeber that the MINI has a British heritage. Parts are supposed to fall off

Ahh. Thanks Paul and Alan - You've both been a great help. I will see the dealer about the button or cluster - as I'd imagine it would be harder to get here in Australia.

And it's also good to know that mine isn't the only one which has a window squeak. It's quite high pitched - and of course early in the mornings (when it's cold), it makes me feel like ramming my head through the glass everytime I hear it.

Thanks again.

Huh - I'll be darned! I just went on and took a second look at realoem.com too, and sure enough, it was listed. I was sure though that it wasn't there a year or so ago! I was even looking at the parts department computer, and I don't recall it being listed there either. Either I'm blind or... Ah well! It's there now!

The buttons have a small box in them (square hole) that fits snugly over the switch pin (round peg). Look at the buttons box and you will probably see that it is cracked.

Dealer replaced my missing buttons (we adopted our 2005 MINI) under warranty and serviced my sometimes squealing drivers window (actually Otto's lubed BOTH windows) .... again under warranty. Great service!!

They are both easy repairs!

both my windows made the squeaking noise. whenin took it in for some other thing the tech told me it was pretty common on the cabrios. all he did was lube the regulator track and cleaned the rubber window channels. noise is gone and hasnt come back yet in 6-8 months

Ahh! Thanks for that. I will get this looked at on the next oil change - although that is still some time away. I'm so sure I won't be able to duplicate the problem with the squeak however, as it only seems to happen every now and then when it's cold.

Thanks heaps anyway everyone!
