Mistake! Feel Terrible!
Last night I was letting some friends out of my brand new (305 miles) MCS and when I got back in the car accidently pushed the gas pedal (car was in neutral with the parking brake on). I immediately let of and think I only revved her to about 4000 rpm's.
She's running fine, and I don't think I did any damamge, but I'm really curious if anyone has any opinion on whether or not this could damage the car?

Don't worry...as long as you didn't planted it to the rev limiter for two minutes, there's nothing harmed...
No damage at all. I did a smoking burnout when I left the dealer with my new MCS back in 2002 and the engine is strong and tough today after more than 75k miles.
I've had my similarly new MCS to 5000+ twice, once cos I wanted to see if there was torque steer with the LSD and once because the hill assist fooled me.
I don't think the engine will suffer any long term effects.

The engine can be run for extended periods at any speed below redline. The ECU (that stands for "engine computer thingie that keeps all engine parameters in check") has a 'rev limiter' that won't let the engine rev above a preset point (redline on the tach, or thereabouts) by shutting off fuel and spark at that point. You can't over-rev this motor just by planting your foot on the throttle, it has "oops damage prevention" as noted above.
Now, get on the highway, accidentally grab 2nd instead of 6th at 85MPH, and you can do some damage. As for just flooring the engine, well, you can put 'er in neutral and hold your foot to the floor for a few seconds and all you'll hear is an engine wail interspersed with a stuttering - that's the rev limiter. Remove your foot, let the engine rev back down, put 'er in gear, and you can drive off to yoga, no problems.
