Fess up to your MPG
Fess up to your MPG
I finally drove like a 90 year old on a recent road trip in Florida. The round trip was 200 miles, (no hills) windows up, a/c on.....temp outside 90 degrees. My stock 02MCS with 62,000 miles, has a Helix air intake....no other mods.......Best MPG 31. Not real impressive when driving with a nimble foot.
All in all, five years later I'm still very happy with my car....and its dependability

I get somewhere between 25-28 with my 03 MCS (only mod is a 15% pulley, but it did not change the pre- and post-pulley readings. The drive is mainly freeways, but then again these are Los Angeles freeways; they are like parking lots most of the time. For just one tank, I drove it like I was sleeping behind the wheel and got over 30 mpg (i.e., 31). I am OK to stay below 30 as long as I dont have to drive like that ever again
We did not buy these cars for the mpg values, right (this may not apply to MC).

I get an average of 29 mpg around town with a few longer trips and no "spirited" action. If I reset the trip computer before a highway trip, I'll see 33-34 mpg for that sort of driving if I'm taking it easy (70-75 mph avg.)

Depending on how much traffic I drive in, I can get as high as 35. Average (calculated) is 32. That's numbers from last week in my '03 MC with K&N Intake, Borla Exhaust and 164K miles.
My '05 MCS w/ 16% pulley,Alta CAI,215/45-17,Borla Exhaust results:always 25 mpg in town;San Diego to Monterey & back:1,027 miles,29 mpg,53.5 avg.mph.:San Diego to MITM & back:2,500 miles,30.5 mpg,54.5 avg.mph.It always comes out about the same, even the AMVIV trip with a track time day.Of course we always go on runs around Monterey,Las Vegas,MITM,etc.,so I'm pleased with the mileage! Now if I could cruise at 75 mph all day,I'd be getting 39 mpg!(According to the computer)And I also found out that my math numbers match the computers' within .1 mpg!

I average 31 all day long driving back and forth to work in a combination of city/hwy. Not too bad, but I wasn't expecting much to begin with.
My truck gets 11 and my Lexus get 21, so 31 is pretty close to a Prius for me!

'03 JCW. Usually 23-24 mpg for a tank. Maybe a couple more if I'm on a freeway trip and can leave the cruise control on most of the time (increasingly difficult with the amount of traffic in the wester states).
With a mixture of scenic two-lane highway with occasional stoplights and in-town driving, I'm averaging a consistent 28.1 MPH with a 2006 Convertible 'S', CAI and cat-back exhaust, no other mods. I'm running 91 octane (what passes for 'premium' here in mid-coastal California.
Wheels are the stock Webspokes, and tires are stock size (although they're not runflats).
When I was driving from Virginia to California, the eight tanks I used averaged out like this:
29.7 (93 octane)
30.9 (87 octane)
29.7 (93 octane)
28.3 (87 octane)
28.3 (91 octane)
29.4 (86 octane)
29.0 (91 octane)
31.3 (87 octane)
I was purposely trying to alternate fuel grades to see how much of a difference it made. I put at least 330 miles on each tank. Not very scientific, though, because for parts of the trip, the speed limit was 55MPH, while the limit was 80 MPH for other parts.
