Yesterday I jumped into Reg, (my '06 MCS) to drive home from work (~50 mi) and noticed that the red airbag light on the dash is on...(not the yellow passenger one up by the mirror)...

I restarted the car and it was still on... the only difference from any other day was that it was a bit hot (95+F) here in NJ, and I usually park in the shade, but all the spots were taken so I got stuck in the sun. (Would this have *ANY* impact on the problem?)

I stopped at the dealer and made an apt. to have it checked out, and as I was driving the mile or so home, the !@#$ing light went out (?!).

The dealer told me to still bring it in.

The car has about 21K on it... and my forum searches didn't really turn anything up...

Any Ideas?

So I brought the car into the dealer (Morristown Mini)... in an hour they diagnosed the problem (failing airbag sensor), replaced the sensor, and gave it a wash...

I had a cup of coffee and chatted about past car experiences and upcoming models with the service manager and other 'guests'.

Both my wife's MCS and mine had that problem w/ the airbag light. In both cases it was the wiring/sensor under the passenger seat that failed. MINI USA replaced without cost to either of us.
