(Disregard) Can a home mechanic replace a clutch?
Can a home mechanic replace a clutch?
I'm looking at purchasing a 2003 Mini S with a failing throw-out bearing. I've replaced a clutch myself in a FWD car before but I'm wondering if there is anything about the mini that makes it anymore difficult for a shade tree mechanic. (Special tools needed, engine removal, etc.) What might this cost for a dealer to do? Thanks in advance for any assistance you can lend. Looking forward to joining the ranks soon.

Take a look at this and see if you feel comfortable with it https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...52#post1451152
Tell us where you are located and somone may be able to direct you to a mechanic.

Wow that's great k-huevo! (I knew Mini owners would have a group like this.) I'm still in negotiations to purchase the car so finding a mechanic would be premature. I fear the current owner might not be fessin' up about the problem to other prospective buyers since he's not replied to my offer. We'll see. If I do get it and do the clutch I be sure to post the event as well. Portland, Oregon

I take it the sway bar has to come off?
Still looking for ballpark estimate to have this done. (For negotiation purposes.)
