How to lubricate the steering bushings/joints/etc

Hello I have a problem where my steering column creaks a lot when I turn it. it makes like a loud crack. It is getting worse but since I have 58K miles it is not under warranty.

Is there a way that I can do the lubrication myself? does anyone know how to?

Thanks

first of all where is the noise coming from exactly? can you hear it inside and outside the car?

The early cars (up to 12/02 production) had this problem. Replacing the upper steering column assembly with the updated replacement will fix this. It seems that the upper shaft would get bent slightly and damage the bearing. I have not had any luck in repairing these.

Move the Steering Wheel around a couple of times, set it, and then repeat again. (the info was relayed to me a while back and it worked fairly well!) Otherwise, the dealership wanted around $850 to replace the column.
Good Luck!

I had the same sound at 37,000 miles. Real loud and annoying. The rack and pinion assembly had a loose bolt. Dealer tightened it, no problem since.

the sound is outside and you can definetly hear it.. you can also feel it in the steering wheel.

It's definitely not the steering column then. I'm guessing it's the loose bolt I was talking about.
