Engine clicking noise under acceleration '03 MCS

My car is the 2003 Cooper S with 68,000 KMS.

I have a clicking sound in the engine compartment under acceleration. It started about a year ago. You can not hear it when the windows are up and must be accelerating next to a building or wall to hear it. The sound reminds me of the clicking sound of a dry CV joint, and no it is not the CVs.

It occurs at 3000 RPM and above only under acceleration. The sound comes from the passenger side of the car. The dealer has an inquiry to the MINI Canada, no reply yet.

Any ideas out there in MINI tech land?

Cheers.

AFAIK, it's the old-style supercharger just being noisy, though I don't know why. My '02 MCS does it, as does a few other '02 MCS's I know of. Yours is the 1st '03 I've heard of.

Is this supercharger noise something to be concerned about? Should I get the supercharger replaced or am I asking for more headaches?

it is your harmonic damper . just plug in harmonic damper in the search window . call webb motorsports to see if he's got any 05-06 dampers left . then pay him then install when receaved . problem all gone .

Sounds plausible. If so, it's yet another reason to get a lightweight crank pulley.

Wahoo, thanks guys.

I think it's time to get my dealer to put in that 15% pulley I've had my eye on while they have it apart. That light weight crank pulley is a superb idea too.
