DIY - Oil Change

Is anyone else out there doing there own oil changes after the warranty period? I'm out of warranty and out of free oil changes. The Mini dealer is not very close or convenient so I think I will try and take care of my self. Anyone one else doing the same? If so:

1 - what oil are you using with the same specs

and

2 - how do you reset the engine service mileage

Thanks

Yeah, just follow the how to threads, it's a very easy car to change oil on, takes 10-15 minutes. I used Mobile 1 last time.

Here’s one of many oil change how-to instructions. http://www.lonestarminiclub.com/foru...read.php?t=411 .

I use this tool for resetting the service indicator and reading fault codes. http://www.promini.com/product-exec/...arch_model/100
Be aware for some vehicles the service indicator will not re-set until the target has been reached. I was able to perform the oil service reset at any point in the mileage interval for four years, but at the last oil change it would not allow the reset. Nothing is broken it’s just another wacky MINI characteristic.

From Mini Mania's site.....

"Here is how to reset the oil service light:

1) Press and hold the trip button
2) Insert key and turn to position 1
3) Watch for RESET to appear
4) Release the button, then press & hold it again
5) Wait for the RESET to flash
6) Release the button, and then press & release (once only)
7) Service interval should then be reset to next interval "

I know somepeople have mentioned those vacuum devices that allow you to change oil from the top! I found this review of one. Take a look at the car!:
