I think that the dealer has to program this.

I 'm not sure about the reprogram ,but the chirp will sound when you have a door open and use the remote to lock the doors and it will not chirp when the doors are closed, go figure

It was an option. Pre2007, if you have it, you have a red light housing on the tip of your signal stalk.

I don't have one. You think a car that was 26k+ would come with one. Lame!

It does come with an engine immobilizer, just no audible alarm.

An audible alarm is yours for the asking.
And the paying.
And the installing.

FWIW, my alarm chirps once on close, twice on open.
It is listed as an option
Acknowledge - Disarm acoustically (Active/Not Active)
Acknowledge - Arm acoustically (Active/Not Active)
By default it should be active.

i always do it as a habit, right before i close my door i pressed lock twice and it double chirps then when the door closes i lock it. If there is an open door and you try to lock it, it chirps to let you know all of the doors are not closed.

I have noticed if I lock the car using the key in the drivers door handle, sometimes the alarm will not set, since it doesn't chirp and the acknowledgement light doesn't come on.

So my habit has become to always use the remote button.

An alrm isn't going to help much. If someone wants to steal a Mini they'll just put it in their pocket and run away!

I personally don't want chirps or lights when I unlock. I've always figured if I were to loose (or have pick pocket) my keys either will just lead a thief to the car! Of course, how many MINIs will be in the parking lot. MINI key with MINI key ring, duh, pretty obvious!

That's actually not a bulb - it's a sensor (I believe for the automatic A/C system).

That's the UV sensor for the auto A/C (unless you have manual AC, in that case, it's just a dead redish purple thing in your dash.)

To have an alarm you mushadd the the shiren, shtalk and interior I/R shensor. (sorry, I had to go there...)

I personally like the fact that my MINI does NOT chirp or blow the horn when I lock or unlock. I don't want to be like all the other SUV clones in the parking lot. I can hear the lock click, that is enough for me. If I had a chirp or horn I would disable it.

I wired in a piezo horn just to give me a slight audio confirmation that I had locked the doors with the remote. $10 mod!
