Cloth, leatherette, or leather?

I've noticed it while driving a car with cloth seats, but not in mine which has leatherette. I didn't spend a lot of time analyzing why it was making the noise (I felt a slight popping too), but it was annoying.

The seats are cloth and not the sports version, it is more annoying than anything, I would also describe it as a popping!

I was in a Cooper with the profile leather today, in the passenger seat, and I felt this "popping" in the seatback near my shoulder.

On the other car I was in with cloth seats, it was in the seat underneath me.

I still don't know what's causing it. Might it be something to do with the springs in the seat? I'm very glad I haven't felt it in my own MINI (leatherette), because it is annoying!
