Burned-out power steering motor!
Took my 2002 MCS to the dealer Friday to determine what caused my power steering to fail. Turned out the motor had fried itself. I figured that would be the problem so I planned on driving Mouse until they received the motor. Imagine my surprise when they insisted I leave the car. It seems there has been at least one fire several days AFTER the motor burned out. The dealership provided me with a rental - a Jetta - until Mouse is fixed Tuesday or Wednesday next week. I've read about all the problems people are having with their dealerships - all I can say is thank goodness Dreyer & Reinbold in Indianapolis embodies all the MINI experience is supposed to be.
