Throttle Body Busted
Just wanted to let everybody know that with 4400 miles on my MCS, it broke down. I'll spare you the drama and just tell you that it was diagnosed as a faulty throttle body and they also have to replace the pedal system.
This was after I stalled out at a light and the car would not restart. After about 10 minutes it started and I was able to drive it with the service engine light as well as the EML lights on a few miles to the dealership service area.
Anyone else out there ever hear of this?
My problems so far:
1) Side "S" Grille and light unit fell off.
2) Hatch Rattle
3) Throttle Body and Drive By Wire System
4) Front lower bumper grille mashed in at car wash, drving up hill, breathing on it. Secured it on my own with some adhesives
5) Boot latch issue

Here are the only items I have identified so far:
1) Rear hatch rattle
2) Front grill mesh (bottom) pops out, I carry a small tie down to hook the mesh to pop it back into place
3) Rear seat fold down handle broke (replaced yesterday)
Oh, I was in Napa last Friday and I hit a pothole leaving a winery (No I wasn't drinking, just stocking up before the move) and the sensor light for the tire went off with the EML light. Checked air pressure at the gas station used the tire air pressure reset button and drove off, both lights went off.
Sorry to hear about your throttle problem, I feel lucky so far, about 7100 miles since May 24th. Weekend & vacation driving

Greg, So sorry to read of your MCS's woes. What was your build date? Is the service dept. handling the situation well? Please keep us posted!
No fun to have these kinds of troubles.
Cheers!

My MCS was built in April I think. I picked it up on June 24th.
In the past I've not been pleased with the service department. Many trips for stupid things. My significant other has a cooper, and between the two of us we are there quite a lot, so they know that I've got some frustration. (Alternator and seat replacement in hers alone with under 2000 miles)
So, In this instance, they have been great. Obviously the car wasn't drivable - so they had no choice but to take it. I was just amazed that they were able to look at it the same day and diangose the problem. Unfortunately it will be a week maybe more before I get the car back as they have to wait on parts. (They ALWAYS have to wait on parts). I just think they know that I would go nuts if they didn't cater to me this time.
So, despite the gloom of not having a car for a week I'm happy with the service dept right now. In addition while it's there they are going to enable the convienience opening that I've been longing for the past two months... (Westchester Mini, NY)

Can you give us some info on the seat re-placement? a few of us are having the same issue. My rep says he has not heard anything from Mini, so he won't go with a change out just yet. I would like to know...
Which seat it was?
Did seat adjustments correct the prob. for awhile?
How did you get it re-placed?
anything else you might want to add.
Thanks,
Motor On!!
My MC was built on April 1, 2002. So I was a little worried about Aprils Fools jokes being played by the assemblers. Luckily after 6000 miles, I've had no problems other than a wood screw in the LR tyre.

I guess since it's such a new car, and only been on the market for 5 months, that it will take a while for the parts to be in stock...aren't all the parts from Britain?
As the old saying goes, "The squeaky wheel gets the oil!" So, if you aren't happy, do go NUTS! That isn't the civilized MINI way, but the reality of how to get results sometime in the real world!
