MINI Car Club of America
I forgot I signed up on their webpage sometime ago. I got this message today and I sent a message back asking how they will interact with the existing clubs. Is anyone interested? I'm already thinking of joing the club in Denver, they are accepting the new MINI's with open arms.
Message below:
We trust your motoring experiences are going well. The following are the minutes from the first MINICCA board meeting:
Date: July 24, 2002
Participants:
Charlie Romero
Dave Green
Seth Schmidt
1) MINICCA initial board members have been appointed for interim terms until membership grows to the point where elections make sense (number TBD) or 180 days from the incorporation of the MINICCA, whichever occurs first. Initial board members of the MINICCA are Dave Green (Seattle), Charlie Romero (Northern Virginia) and Seth Schmidt (Central Virginia).
2) Dave Green to prepare documents for filing to become an incorporated non-profit organization by 8/10/2002.
3) Charlie Romero to establish regional chat boards for MINICCA local chapters which can be directly accessed through http://www.minicca.org. Completion date TBD.
4) Charlie Romero to establish MINICCA checking account subsequent to filing for incorporation.
5) A brief discussion of the BMWCCA operating budget in order to get a handle on developing a MINICCA budget was conducted.
6) Bookkeeper responsibilities have been assigned for a short time until a new board member is identified for a financial advisor role. WE ARE STILL IN SEARCH OF A MINI ENTHUSIAST TO SERVE ON THE BOARD AND ACT AS THE FINANCIAL COUNSELOR FOR THE MINICCA. This position requires the understanding of financial considerations necessary to properly organize the MINICCA and to ensure ongoing status as a non-profit organization. PLEASE EMAIL SETH SCHMIDT IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO VOLUNTEER FOR THIS OPEN BOARD POSITION. seth@minicca.org
7) Seth Schmidt has volunteered to coordinate the founding of local chapters of the MINICCA. If you are interested in founding a chapter in your area please email seth@minicca.org

Well they are trying to get along with the big elephant in the tent, BMWCCA, by offering their chapters some web site hosting. I don't know how this will play out. The BMWCCA has embraced the new MINI and accepted it, for example, into their club racing program. I've had personal communication from Wynne Smith, BMWCCA Executive Director, and the club is supporting the MINI although they get ambiguous signals from BMW corporate about where the car fits in. In Roundel, the BMWCCA magazine, they are covering the MINI. There will be a sorting out period, and both clubs can co-exist if that's what people want, or if you want to join an existing enthusiast group with all programs up and running, BMWCCA is there. Our family belongs to four auto related clubs!
dukesantos is right. Other clubs are already welcoming the MINI.
Here in Denver for instance, BMW CCA, Mini's of the Rockies (classic Mini club), and the British Car Club of Northern Colorado are all open to new MINI owners. In addition we have a pretty good set of locally organized events coming up. (see the Rocky Forum for that).
I'm looking forward to the time when MINI CCA is finally ready to roll something out at the national level and the real regional organization can start. It's just one more thing to throw into the mix.
