Is the fuel pump audible?

On a quite morning if I do not have the stereo on right when I first start the car I can faintly hear a noise that sounds like its coming from the back seat (possibly the passengers side back seat). Its a very faint repeated thud. Almost sounds like a pump or something.

Is that the fuel pump? Is it possible to normally hear it in operation at start up?

That is what I've been told. I typically only hear it on cold mornings. On my first trip to the dealership, I mentioned this to them. They couldn't "duplicate" it. But, the discussion here on NAM indicated that, yes, others have heard it, it is normal, and nothing to worry about :D.

I have the same noise, been trying to figure out what it is. I don't think it's the fuel pump, though, it doesn't sound like any fuel pump I've ever heard. Any pump that I've ever heard was a fast paced clicking sound and this noise is deep thud, almost sounds like an hydralic pump unloading. Only happens right after start up for maybe 5 minutes.

exact noise here. If you find out I would be interested to at least know what it is.

Hmmm. Sounds like you are describing the ABS, but I don't believe that would be in the rear??? I have heard that thud once.
