Help, able to hand tighten oil filter canister yet
Help, able to hand tighten oil filter canister yet
Help I am able to hand tighten the oil filter canister on my 03S, to where the canister is flush against the engine block. I then follow up with the torque wrench to specs., yet I still have a problem with dripping oil from the canister.
Any suggestions?
1. I replaced the o ring gasket to a new one oiled up, and some oil on the threads of the canister.
Thanks-Kelly

is there a gap?
feel around the lip of the can - does it feel like it is up tight or is there still a gap?
I find I need a harder (more torque) twist to get the can to pop past the o-ring on the can or the ring seal on the filter (depending on who you listen to) ... once it 'pops' THEN it spins easy again and you can then t' it down. I'm taking an 18 inch cheater bar
. Not that much leverage is needed but it is the only damn thing I could get in there longer than the rachet that wouldn't cut it....
Getting past that point takes a scarely amount of force to one expecting a 'normal' hand tight oil filter
if there is no gap then I'd suspect that somehow you may have damaged the o-ring
